Making musical instruments more accessible to a wider audience International Musical Instrument Day
Every year on June 21st, people all over the world engage in a wide variety of instrumental activities, which has become a major festival for music lovers all over the world.
The International Day of Musical Instruments (Fête de la Musique) originated in 1981, when the French Minister of Culture, Ron Jack, and his team conceived the idea of organizing a new kind of musical instrument festival, which is open to everyone, no matter if you are young or old, professional or amateur, everyone is free to take part in the activities on the street corners, in the parks, in the plazas, and even on the top of the mountains, and to share with their friends, neighbors and passers-by the the joy of music and enjoy a life full of music.
Since 1982, the event has been held every year on the summer solstice (June 21), the day with the longest daylight hours in the northern hemisphere, and has taken the name Fête de la Musique. This music festival for the public good quickly became a truly national festival in France and today attracts 5 million people in France. The International Day of Musical Instruments is now celebrated in more than 700 cities in more than 120 countries.
